Legislature
Passes Bills
to Give
Driver's
Licenses and
College
Financial
Aid to
Illegal
Aliens
The State
Senate
joined with
the Assembly
in passing
two bills by
Senator Gil
Cedillo that
would grant
benefits to
illegal
immigrants.
SB 160 would
allow
illegal
aliens to
apply for
and receive
tax-financed
financial
assistance
to attend
college in
California.
Apart from
the fact
that we
should not
be rewarding
individuals
who are
breaking our
immigration
laws, the
costs to
taxpayers
would be
substantial.
According to
the official
bill
analysis:
"UC
estimates
institutional
aid for
these
students
would total
approximately
$3.7 million
... CSU
annual costs
would
initially be
approximately
$3.6
million."
[For the
California
Community
College
system] ...
"the
Proposition
98 cost
would be
approximately
$7.6
million."

Analysis of
SB 160
SB 1162 will
allow
illegal
immigrants
to receive
California
driver's
licenses.
We've
defeated
this
before. The
Governor
vetoed the
last
driver's
license
bill, and
the
legislature
felt the
heat and
repealed the
license law
signed by
former
Governor
Davis.
We can't let
up.
Please...
Contact the
Governor
If you have
not already
done so,
please
contact the
Governor and
ask him to
veto both
bills: SB
160 and SB
1162.
